How the test score is worked out
Your raw percentage is the number of correct answers divided by the number of questions, multiplied by 100. If your instructor adds a curve, those points are added on top:
So if you answered 34 of 40 questions correctly, that is (34 ÷ 40) × 100 = 85%, a solid B. A 5-point curve would lift it to 90%, an A-.

- What is my grade if I got 5 questions wrong out of 25?
- You answered 20 of 25 correctly, which is (20 ÷ 25) × 100 = 80%, a B-. The calculator does this automatically and also applies any curve you enter.
- How does a curve change my score?
- A simple flat curve adds the same number of percentage points to everyone's raw score. Enter the curve amount and the calculator adds it on top of your percentage.
- Can I use this for multiple-choice and written tests?
- Yes, as long as every question is worth the same number of points. For tests where questions have different weights, use our grade calculator instead.
